SkyLens (“the App”) is an Android astronomy and augmented-reality sky guide developed and published by aaronsedna.
Summary
- No account or registration is required.
- Camera frames, precise location, and motion-sensor readings are used for sky alignment on your device and are not uploaded by SkyLens.
- The star catalog, constellation data, artwork, and astronomy calculations are included with the App and work offline.
- Refreshing satellite orbital data connects to CelesTrak.
- The free version uses Google AdMob; SkyLens Pro removes ads.
- Subscriptions are purchased and managed through Google Play.
Location
SkyLens may request approximate or precise location to calculate which stars, constellations, planets, the Sun, the Moon, satellites, trajectories, and observing events are visible from your position. Location is also used to improve compass alignment, rise and set times, and observing information.
The App obtains location through Android and Google Play services and uses it on your device for these calculations. When you enable satellite pass alerts, SkyLens saves the most recent location and its timestamp locally so it can calculate and deliver your selected alerts while the App is closed. It replaces this location when a newer fix is available and removes the saved alert location when you turn alerts off; it does not keep a route history. Alerts pause when that location is more than 24 hours old. SkyLens does not send your precise location to a developer-operated server or create a location history. If you decline location permission, the App remains usable with its built-in Greenwich fallback, although results will not be tailored to your actual position.
Optional satellite pass alerts
Pass alerts are off until you enable them and select satellites. Notification permission allows SkyLens to show these alerts; optional sound follows Android notification volume and Do Not Disturb settings. Alarms and reminders access schedules the selected pass times. You can disable alerts or their sound in SkyLens or revoke access in Android Settings.
SkyLens does not request background location access. Alerts use the last location obtained while the App was open, so reopen SkyLens after travelling to update predictions. Location is processed on the phone, is not shared with advertising services by SkyLens, and is not uploaded to us.
Camera and motion sensors
When you enable the camera layer in AR Sky, SkyLens uses camera permission to place calculated sky objects over the live preview. Camera frames are displayed locally; the App does not photograph, record, analyze, retain, or upload them.
The accelerometer, gyroscope, rotation-vector sensor, and magnetic-field sensor may be used to determine device orientation, smooth movement, and support calibration. These readings are processed on the device and are not sent to us.
You can use the finger-controlled sky map without enabling the camera, and you can revoke camera or location access in Android Settings.
Astronomy and satellite data
SkyLens performs star, constellation, Solar System, trajectory, rise-and-set, and observing calculations locally. Its main catalog and artwork are packaged with the App.
When satellite data is refreshed, the App downloads public two-line element data from CelesTrak over an encrypted connection. Like an ordinary internet request, CelesTrak and its delivery providers may receive network information such as your IP address, request time, the requested satellite groups, and a SkyLens user-agent string. SkyLens stores the downloaded orbital catalog and its update time on your device. Review CelesTrak for information about that service.
Sharing 3D views
When you choose Share, SkyLens creates an image of the displayed 3D object and opens Android’s share sheet. The image and accompanying app link are sent only to the destination you select. These images are rendered models, not camera photographs. The receiving app or service handles anything you share under its own privacy policy.
Local information and device backup
The App stores preferences and feature state locally, including night-vision and background-audio choices, favorite object identifiers, confirmed Pro entitlement state, whether a subscription was previously held, and the availability period of an optional rewarded-ad preview.
Android may include preferences and eligible App files in encrypted cloud backup or device-to-device transfer when those features are enabled for your device and Google account. The downloaded satellite catalog, saved alert location and schedules, cached billing entitlement, and rewarded-preview expiry are excluded from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. Orbital data can be downloaded again and purchases can be restored through Google Play. Clearing SkyLens storage or uninstalling the App removes its local information from that device; an Android backup may later restore eligible preferences according to your device backup settings.
Advertising and privacy choices
The free version uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob). Depending on the screen and your choices, it may show an adaptive banner, a frequency-capped interstitial at a natural transition, or an optional rewarded ad that unlocks premium planning features for 20 minutes. Rewarded ads are voluntary and do not remove ads. SkyLens Pro removes advertising.
Google Mobile Ads may collect and share information for advertising, measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention, including:
- IP address, which can be used to estimate general location
- Advertising ID, App Set ID, and similar device or account identifiers
- App launches, taps, ad impressions, video views, and other interactions
- Diagnostic information such as launch time, hangs, crashes, and energy usage
- Device, operating-system, and App information
Where required, SkyLens uses Google's User Messaging Platform to request consent and present privacy options before requesting ads. Available choices can be reviewed from Settings → Privacy choices. Depending on your region and selections, Google may serve personalized, non-personalized, limited, or technical-delivery ads.

SkyLens Pro subscriptions
SkyLens may offer monthly or annual Pro subscriptions, free trials, and Play-determined introductory, retention, or win-back offers. Google Play presents the price and eligibility terms before purchase and processes payment. We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.
The App exchanges purchase information with Google Play to display offers, acknowledge purchases, restore access, and determine whether Pro is active or scheduled to end. This may include the product and offer identifiers, purchase token, purchase status, acknowledgement status, renewal status, pricing region, and App information. SkyLens stores only a local entitlement confirmation and whether a subscription was previously held; it does not send purchase tokens to a developer-operated backend.
If you cancel, Pro remains available until the end of the period already paid for unless Google Play states otherwise. Subscription management and provider retention are governed by your Google Play account and Google's policies.
Information SkyLens does not request
The App does not require your name, email address, phone number, contacts, microphone, photos, videos, call history, SMS messages, or installed-app list. SkyLens does not include a developer-operated analytics service or social account system, and we do not sell personal information.
Support communications
If you contact support, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include, such as a screenshot, device details, or a description of a problem. This information is used to respond, troubleshoot, keep appropriate support records, and meet legal obligations. Please omit unrelated sensitive information.
Service providers and disclosure
Information may be processed by service providers only where needed for the App's functions:
- Android and Google Play services for location and device backup
- Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform for ads and consent
- Google Play Billing for subscriptions
- CelesTrak and its delivery infrastructure when satellite data is refreshed
- Email providers when you contact support
Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, enforce legal rights, prevent fraud, or protect users and the public.
Security
SkyLens uses Android's application sandbox and platform permission controls. Supported App network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Retention and deletion
Preferences, entitlement state, and cached satellite information remain on your device until replaced, cleared, transferred, restored from an eligible backup, or removed by uninstalling or clearing App storage. Advertising, consent, billing, satellite-request, backup, and support information handled by third parties is retained under those providers' policies and applicable law.
Because SkyLens has no account and does not upload your camera, precise location, sensor, favorite, or settings data to us, we generally cannot access or remotely delete that device-local information. You may contact us to request deletion of information you previously sent to support.
Children's privacy
SkyLens is a general-audience astronomy App and is not specifically directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child provided personal information through support, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
