Privacy Policy for Speedo – GPS Speedometer & Odometer

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, why it is needed, how it is handled, and the choices available to you.

Speedo – GPS Speedometer & Odometer (“the App”) is developed and published by aaronsedna.

Summary

  • No account or registration is required.
  • Your GPS route, speed, and trip history are not uploaded to an aaronsedna server.
  • Core speed tracking works without an internet connection.
  • The live-map module may be included with the app installation. It requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap only when you open the map.
  • Trip summaries and settings are stored locally on your device.
  • Advertising is shown only in appropriate areas, such as completed trip summaries—not on the live speedometer or HUD.
  • The optional Pro upgrade removes advertising.
  • The App uses Google services for location, optional physical-activity recognition, advertising, consent management, and purchases.

Location and GPS information

The App requires location access to provide its primary functions, including:

  • Current speed
  • Trip distance
  • Direction of travel
  • Altitude
  • GPS accuracy
  • Satellite and positioning status
  • Average and maximum trip speed

The App may request precise and approximate location permission.

Location readings are processed primarily on your device using Android location services and Google Play Services Location. The App does not send your GPS route, live speed, or trip history to an aaronsedna-operated server.

The App does not request Android’s background-location permission. When you start a trip manually, or a trip starts through your enabled automatic-trip setting, it may use a foreground location service with an ongoing notification. This allows trip recording to continue when the screen is turned off or another application is visible.

You may withdraw location permission through your device settings. Without location permission, GPS speed and trip-measurement features will not function.

Physical activity and walking detection

The App may ask for Android’s optional physical-activity permission to recognize walking using Google Play services Activity Recognition and your device’s step detector. This evidence helps switch a walking trip to a readable digital speed display and, when you enable automatic trip start, distinguish sustained walking from GPS drift or brief phone movements.

Recognition runs while a walking-enabled trip is active, or while the App is visible and automatic trip start is enabled. It stops when it is no longer needed. Activity and step events are processed on your device and held temporarily in memory. The App does not upload these events, sell them, use them for advertising, or share them with advertisers. It does not read Health Connect, heart rate, medical records, or other health measurements.

You can decline or revoke physical-activity permission in Android settings and change walking detection or automatic trip start in the App’s trip settings. Manual GPS speed measurement and trip recording remain available without this permission. Walking recognition depends on your device and Android’s sensor updates. This is a travel measurement feature, not a medical device or medical advice.

Offline use

The App can calculate speed and record trips without Wi-Fi or mobile data because GPS satellite positioning does not require an internet connection.

Accuracy and availability still depend on factors such as:

  • Your device’s GPS hardware
  • Satellite visibility
  • Being indoors, underground, or near tall buildings
  • Weather and atmospheric conditions
  • Device power-saving restrictions
  • The quality and frequency of location updates provided by Android

An internet connection may still be required for advertisements, purchases, consent messages, other Google services, or new map tiles in the optional live-map feature. If you are offline, previously cached tiles may remain visible; your saved route can still be drawn locally even when street-map detail is unavailable.

Trip history and app settings

The App may store the following trip information locally on your device:

  • Trip start date and time
  • Distance travelled
  • Total duration
  • Moving and stopped time
  • Average speed
  • Maximum speed
  • Minimum and maximum altitude

The App does not store a map of your route on an aaronsedna server.

Optional live map

The live map is a feature module that may be delivered with the App installation by Google Play. Opening it is optional. You can use the speedometer, record trips, and view local route information without opening the live map.

When you open the live map, the App requests only the map tiles needed for the area currently displayed from OpenStreetMap. Those requests reveal the requested geographic area and standard network information such as your IP address, application identifier and version, device or browser type, operating system, and request date and time to the OpenStreetMap Foundation and its delivery infrastructure.

Your saved route coordinates, trip name, speed, altitude, and trip timestamps are not uploaded by the App to OpenStreetMap. The route line and playback marker are drawn locally on your device over the requested tiles.

Map tiles are cached locally to reduce repeat downloads and support revisiting recently viewed areas. The App does not bulk-download cities or countries. Cached tiles can be removed by clearing the App’s storage or uninstalling the App.

OpenStreetMap handles tile requests under its own privacy policy:
https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

The App also stores preferences locally, including:

  • Speed unit
  • Dashboard style
  • Speedometer size
  • Theme
  • HUD preferences
  • Speed alerts
  • Display settings
  • Advertising and consent preferences
  • Pro entitlement status

Trip records can be deleted through the App. Uninstalling the App normally removes its locally stored data. The App’s trip database and preferences are excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer where supported by the operating system.

Notifications and haptic feedback

The App may request notification permission to display an ongoing trip-recording notification and other relevant service information.

The App may use vibration or haptic feedback for features such as speedometer scale changes and enabled alerts. Haptic feedback does not collect personal information.

Advertising and consent

The free version uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob).

Advertisements may be displayed:

  • On a completed trip-summary screen
  • Occasionally after an eligible completed trip

Advertisements are not displayed over the live driving speedometer or HUD.

Google advertising services may process information such as:

  • IP address and approximate location
  • Advertising ID, App Set ID, or similar device identifiers
  • App launches, interactions, ad views, and ad clicks
  • Device and operating-system information
  • Diagnostic and performance information
  • Crash, hang, and energy-usage information

Where required, the App uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to request advertising consent and provide privacy choices. Available consent options can be reviewed through Settings → Privacy choices.

Google processes advertising information under its own privacy policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy

The optional Pro upgrade removes advertising from the App.

Pro purchase

The App may offer a one-time Pro upgrade through Google Play Billing.

Google Play processes the payment. The developer does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

The App and Google Play may exchange purchase-related information such as:

  • Product identifier
  • Purchase token
  • Transaction and acknowledgement status
  • Country or Play Store region
  • App version
  • Pro entitlement status

This information is used only to complete, verify, restore, and manage the purchase.
